Bad Astronomy and Raelism

According to Rael, the Elohim's star/planet is about a little less than 1 light-year away from Earth. (Intelligent Design, p. 89)

But, the closest known star is Proxima Centauri and which is 4.2 light-years away.

To explain away this anomaly, Rael came up with a *NEW* Raelian idea that NOTHING IS CONSTANT IN THE UNIVERSE in a FAQ in his 4th book (Let's Welcome the ETs) published in 1979. It is NOT part of the "Messages" as in "dictated to Rael by the Elohim".

Rael wrote:
"Scientific members of our movement have put forth an hypothesis: the distance between their planet and ours could be about four light years by following the light, which could be moving in a pronounced curve, but would only be one light year away if we travelled in a straight line. That is a possibility." (p. 234)
It's a possibility indeed, BUT a very slim one since we're talking about a curvature 4 times longer than the "actual" distance!!... it'll look like the silhouette of a penis with tiny balls. : P

He then added:
"I might add that light does not move at the same speed in all strata of the universe, because nothing is invariable, neither in space nor time." (p. 234)

Sure enough, BUT it was Yahweh who spoke of his "home planet" in clearly defined terms of a uniform speed of light:
"The parasang is a unit of measurement just like the parsec, which stands for the distance that light can travel in one second, which is about 300,000 kilometers. Our planet is 30,000,000 parasangs away from Earth or about nine thousand billion kilometers, just a little less than a light year." (pp. 88-89) LOL

"It is written that... “the height of his heels” is 30,000,000 “parasangs”. The parasang is a unit of measurement just like the parsec, which stands for the distance that light can travel in one second, which is about 300,000 kilometers... The creators’ own planet is 236,000 parasangs from its sun - a very big star - or seventy billion, eight hundred million kilometers. This is what is meant by the “height” of the creators." (Intelligent Design, pp. 88-89)
------

The Earth is about 150,000,000km from the Sun (1AU). The size of the Elohim's planet is assumed to be comparable to our own (Rael supposedly spent a day there; the population is also similar now). The Elohim's planet is 70,800,000,000km from it's sun, that's about 472AU. For the Elohim's planet to receive the same amount of sunlight, their sun needs to be about 472^2 (~200 000) times more luminous than our Sun.

Red giant star, Aldebaran is 425 times more luminous that our Sun... it's diameter is 44 times bigger than our Sun's. The following picture illustrates the comparative sizes of our and the Elohim's planetary systems (their sun needs to be much much larger than depicted).

One year for the Elohim (the time for their planet to orbit its sun) must be a very very long time! LOL

"Here we have something fundamentally important. Planets have a life span, and one day they will no longer be habitable. By that time humanity must have reached a level of scientific knowledge sufficient either to undertake a move to another planet, or if it cannot adapt itself elsewhere, to create a humanoid form of life capable of surviving on another world... Before humanity becomes extinct, you would, for example, have to create another race of people capable of living in a totally different atmosphere, who would inherit your knowledge before you disappear." (Intelliegent Design, p. 72)
"From what we created and how it has developed, we have discovered our own origins. For we were also created by other people who have since disappeared. Their world has quite certainly disintegrated, but thanks to them, we were able to continue in their steps and create you." (p. 91)
"Unfortunately, we have been unable to find the civilizations who created the closest of these worlds. But perhaps we will find them farther on as we continue to search the universe, each time moving further away. In most cases, their planets approached the sun too closely, and life became impossible, or their sun exploded, or became too cold. Although we have not noticed anything abnormal at present in our system, all this makes us fear the worst." (p. 108)
----

The Earth is 4.5 billion years old. Its life span depends on the Sun, which is "main sequence" star at present. In another 4.8 billion years, the Sun will be 67% more luminous and hotter than at present, and will evolve from a "main sequence" star to a "red giant". It will take another 12 billion years for the our red giant to engulf the Earth.

But before the Earth disintegrates, life will have become extinct because of increasing temperatures that will turn the Earth into a "moist greenhouse" without an ocean, much like Venus. CO2 levels will fall below the critical threshold needed to sustain photosynthesis. But, all this isn't for another 1.1 billion years.

According to Raelism, humanity is about 13,000 years old while the Elohim's civilization isn't more than 38,000 years old... and they're supposed to be the OLDEST civilization in this universe! Raelians believe when a civilization is 13,000 years old, they begin to create life on other planets. The planet of the creators of the Elohim had supposedly disintegrated when their civilization was also about 38,000 years old (i.e. when the Elohim was about 13,000 years old themselves).

Raelians, who are like "Young Earth Creationists", can't think in millions and billions of years. LOL

Check out: The Oldest Civilization in the Universe - only 38,000 years old?

  1. The really funny part of Raelian Astronomy for me is that it all makes perfect sense and is fully consistent with know astronomical facts... IF you assume that Raël isn't very bright and didn't understand what the Elohim were telling him.

    For instance;

"The parasang is a unit of measurement just like the parsec, which stands for the distance that light can travel in one second, which is about 300,000 kilometers. Our planet is 30,000,000 parasangs away from Earth or about nine thousand billion kilometers, just a little less than a light year." (pp. 88-89)

The problem with this statement isn't that it places the Elohim homeworld within a light year of earth, it's that a parsec ISN'T a light-second. A PARSEC is the PARallax of one arcSECond, or about 3.3 light-years, and 30 MEGAPARSEC (30,000,000 parasangs) would be nearly 100 million light years. Just the right distance for a few of the medium distant Galaxies from our own.

Oh and just as an aside, that swastika in a star of david symbol they use, and later the swirly star of david, are pretty good symbols to represent a 6 armed spiral galaxy, kinda like NGC 3370, which just happens to be 30 Megaparsecs away.

Next up, the age of civilizations. Humanity was created by the Elohim 13,000 years ago, who were themselves created 38,000 years ago by some now lost race. Now, 13,000 years ago IS the point at which human civilizations really started to get started, and saw the building of some of the first "Cities", but it was also the end of the last Glaciation. Not really surprising timewise. And humans themselves had been spreading across the globe for dozens (maybe hundreds) of Millennia before then. But what if those weren't EARTH years?

The Elohim homeworld is supposedly 236,000 light seconds from it's star (assuming this time a parasang really is a light sec. if it's a parsec then Elohimia is 3/4 of a million light years from it's star O_O) or about 472 AU. The only Stars with a biozone (capable of supporting liquid water) at this distance would be an O (blue) or B (blue-white) with a Stellar Mass of around 45 (45 times our sun) giving said earthlike world an orbital period of 1528.38 years. That's right, a millennia and a half long 'year'. And 13,000 Elohimian years comes out to about 20 Million of ours, which takes us back to the start of the Neogene period and the beginning of the Hominids.

Seriously, fixing this stuff is easy. if Raël kicks the bucket I might have to pull a Miscavige and take over. ;)
